In the territory of Matelica, in the Marche hinterland, Verdicchio develops a personality all its own.
In this area, the valley does not descend toward the sea, but extends parallel to the Adriatic, enclosed by hills that define its microclimate and character.
This is where Verdicchio di Matelica is born.
Retrogusti arrives in the heart of this area with a new event, hosted by Casa Grimaldi Restaurant, for a lunch centered around one of the most distinctive white wines on the Italian scene together with the wineries Azienda Agricola Bisci, Borgo Paglianetto and ColleStefano.
In recent years, Verdicchio di Matelica has strengthened its bond with its place of origin, culminating in recognition as Matelica DOC and Matelica DOCG Riserva. It is a choice that places the territory at the center, before the grape variety itself, and that clearly reflects the relationship between wine and landscape.
In this valley, once covered by the sea and today marked by pronounced temperature swings, Verdicchio develops a structure and minerality that make it distinctive. It is no coincidence that it is often compared, for its tension and verticality, to French benchmarks such as Chablis.
The June 7 event will be a food and wine journey that brings these wines into dialogue with the cuisine, through a menu designed to accompany their different expressions. A composition built on balance, where each dish is meant to stand alongside the glass without overpowering it.
As always, alongside the tasting, there will also be room for storytelling: about the territory, its characteristics, and those who interpret it every day through wine.
An occasion to delve into an appellation that in recent years has chosen to tell its story starting from its place of origin.
