Lazio's wine history also includes sparkling wines, a story that is often less told but closely tied to the region's grape varieties.
Bellone, Malvasia, and Aleatico: grapes that have always been part of the regional agricultural landscape and that today find new interpretations through sparkling wine production.
The latest edition of Stories in Tasting spotlights some of the most interesting expressions of Lazio sparkling wines, crafted from native grape varieties and with increasingly precise winemaking.
We'll be at Luppolo e Farina, where the evening takes shape starting from a direct pairing: the one with Roman-style fried food.
Crispy, simple, rooted in a domestic and popular tradition, fried food becomes the starting point for exploring contrast through freshness, acidity, and effervescence.
The tasting opens with a vintage Brut made from Malvasia by Casata Mergè, followed by a Classic Method made from Bellone di Cincinnato, and ending with the sweet sparkling Aleatico from Famiglia Cotarella, which closes the journey with a less conventional take on bubbles.
Throughout the evening, the tasting will be guided to help guests understand the wines and pairings, with attention to aromas, structure, and interaction with the food.
An event dedicated to a part of Lazio that moves between tradition and more recent interpretations, starting from grape varieties that continue to tell the story of the region even in different forms.
