Blue fish has always been part of coastal cuisine.
Sardines, anchovies, mackerel: fish tied to an everyday, popular tradition, built on what the sea brought back each morning. An essential cuisine, capable of working with a few ingredients and clean flavors, deeply rooted in the Mediterranean.
The new episode of Retrogusti’s Tasting Stories starts right here.
On Saturday, May 30, we’ll be at Lido Tiziana, a historic seaside meeting place in Villapiana Scalo, founded in the 1950s and now an open space all year round. Overlooking the Ionian Sea, we’ll put together a lunch dedicated to blue fish and wines from the Calabrian region.
The menu features some signature ingredients from the Ionian coast and the inland area: from anchovies with Castrovillari white onion – a Slow Food Presidium – to handmade fileja with sardines, wild fennel and cruschi peppers, and grilled mackerel served with citrus and Mediterranean herb salmoriglio.
Lunch will be accompanied by the wines of Azienda Agricola Carlomagno and Cantine Viola, two producers that work to enhance the territory through grape varieties and interpretations deeply rooted in Calabria.
As always, the tasting will also be an occasion for storytelling: the story of seafood cuisine, the products of the Ionian coast, and a culinary tradition that continues to live on through dishes that are only seemingly simple.
Later, from 5:00 PM, the afternoon will open with a session dedicated to the wines of Cantine Viola and Azienda Agricola Carlomagno, featuring sea-view tastings and a DJ set by Saro Costa on the Ionian Sea. Access to the tastings will be available with a dedicated ticket.
